New Student Information
Transforming your future starts here.
It doesn’t matter what your educational journey has been. What does matter is your next step.
NEO’s Adult Education offers many opportunities to transform your future. Whatever your goals, we’re here to help you achieve them.
NEO programs include:
- Adult education courses
- High school equivalency diploma and test preparation
- English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
- Citizenship test preparation
- College test preparation and remediation
- Algebra credit/proof for apprenticeships
New students must attend a Start Day. Check the NEO calendar for dates. At these sessions, our teachers will explain our classes and expectations. Common Questions
Any Indiana resident who is 18 years of age and older can enroll in NEO’s adult education program. Students who are 16 or 17 may also enroll IF they have a signed Exit Interview from their previous school. Certain documents are required for the HSE test.
A few years ago, the state of Indiana replaced the GED (General Education Diploma) with the HSE (High School Equivalency). So yes, you can earn your GED at NEO, it just goes by a different name now.
It depends! Every student is different. The length of time you are a NEO student depends on a few things:
1. Your goal(s)
2. Your attendance
3. The commitment you give to studying
We believe that the best education happens in the right environment, with the right leaders. NEO offers classes taught by highly qualified instructors that are truly teacher-led. Computer courses are a portion of a student’s educational plan, but we know the importance of learning with a teacher and peers in the classroom. NEO also has English as a second language and citizenship classes.
Email us using the contact form on this page or call us at 219-850-4445 or stop in. Our Adult Education staff will get in touch with you to sign up for a Start Day and fill out your paperwork. You will need to provide proof of Indiana residency and a government issued photo ID.
We have both day and evening hours to help students achieve their goals. However, students must be present in class in order to learn. We know that most students have families, jobs, and other important things outside of school. Teachers work with students to create a schedule that includes a minimum of 12 hours of class each week.
Daytime classes are Monday-Thursday, 9am to 1pm
Evening classes are Monday-Thursday, 5:30 to 8:30pm (we do not have evening classes in the summer)
Computer lab study hours are Monday-Thursday, 1pm-3pm
We can’t guarantee a new job. But we do promise that through our classes, certifications, and career counseling, we can put you in touch with opportunities that you may not have had before your time at NEO.

Common Questions
Who can attend NEO's New Vistas High School?
Any Indiana resident who has completed the 8th grade can be a New Vistas student. We do not have district boundaries. Our students are both traditional high school students or sometimes students who left high school early and wish to return in order to finish.
How much does New Vistas cost?
New Vistas is a tuition free, public high school. We are funded through the Indiana Department of Education. Students pay a textbook and technology fee.
Why is New Vistas different from other schools?
New Vistas is both a high school, charter school, and alternative school. These designations allow us to do things a little differently here. We offer small classes (typically a 15:1 ratio) and flexible schedules for some students. In addition to a traditional schedule, we have evening high school classes Monday-Thursday. Students may be taking regular teacher-led classes, credit recovery, and career certifications – sometimes all at once! Students can graduate at the end of any trimester and immediately enter the workforce, a college program, or earn additional certifications through our adult education programs. New Vistas is different because we create a unique educational plan for every student’s needs.
What is the registration process?
What is the registration process?
Download and complete the registration packet above or stop by our office to pick one up. Give us a call for a tour. Once those are finished, our guidance counselor will meet with you. All students are required to attend an orientation meeting. Registration can be done any time in the school year. New Vistas is on a trimester schedule, and students may start at any time.
All new students must provide the following documents: social security card, birth certificate, and proof of Indiana residency. If you have a transcript from another school, please bring it with you. We can also request transcripts from your previous school.
Click here to access our registration portal. Through this portal you will fill out your registration paperwork, provide proof of Indiana residency and a government issued photo ID, and select your new student orientation date.”
How is New Vistas monitored? Who ensures the quality of education?
This is one area where we ARE like other public high schools. Our teachers are licensed and experienced professionals. We are led by both a principal and executive director. We have a school board, and we are required to meet all education requirements for public schools under the Indiana Department of Education, as well as Ball State University, which holds our charter authorization. New Vistas is a fully accredited high school.
Do you have arts programs and sports?
We have a wonderful art program and we do offer physical education classes. As we continue to grow and develop, we are building more arts opportunities because we know these are important to educating well-rounded students. NEO students can also earn physical education credits through a partnership with the martial arts academy we have onsite. We hope to grow these options in the future.
Is there transportation available?
We do not currently offer transportation, but many of our students’ families carpool.
